Information and Communications Technology

Information and Communications Technology department was initially created to train students in the use of technology in the areas of training. The curriculum was designed to give trainees basic knowledge in the use of computers in relation to the training being giving them.

This department is headed by Mr. Armah Nyamekye who has a Masters Degree in Information Technology Education from the University of Cape Coast. He is supported by the following members of staff;

  • Miss Juliana Otchere - M.ed. Information Technology (Yet to graduate)
  • Mr. Jack Aggrey - Bsc Information Technology Education
  • Mr. Michael Bus-Moses - Bsc Computer Science
  • Mr. Richard Yeboah - Bsc. Information Technology Education
  • Mr. Stephen Quaigraine - Dip. in Networking Eng.
  • Mr. Isaac Okyir - Dip. in Hardware Maintenance
  • Miss Evelyn Kwame - BA Management Studies

The department is ocassionally supported by volunteers, National service persons and teacher trainees on internship. Currently there is a volunteer, a service person and an intern. They are;

  • Mr. Paul Mensah - Volunteer (Bsc Information Technology Education)
  • Mr. Samuel Ackon - Service personnel (Bsc Information and Communication Technology Education)

 

With the growing changes in the world of technology, the head and staff of the department decided to be innovative and bring about some relevance to the Information and Communicatons department. During the 2015/2016 academic year the department under the leadership of Mr. Armah Nyamekye introduce the COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY programme. With the able support of the principal Mr. Jonathan Tawiah a curriculum was developed under the supervision of a team from the Technical Education Division of the Ghana Education Service. Members of the team are

  • Mr. Philip Incoom
  • Mr. Alex Nyarkoh

The components for the Computer Technology programme are:

  • Hardware Maintenance
  • Networking Installation
  • Graphic Communication
  • Practical/Project work

In addition to the above students are suppose to pursue the following core subjects:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Integrated Science
  • Social Studies
  • ICT

The programme started with 32 students who are presently in the second year. Currently the programme has a first year class of 38 students.

In the 2016/2017 academic year, the department under the leadership of Armah Nyamekye once again introduced the Information Technology programme with the support of the Principal. Under the supervision of the same team from Technical Education Division of the Ghana Education Service supported by Mr. Patterson Damoah who is the head of the ICT department of the Nkoranza Technical Institute.

The components for the Information Technology programme are:

  • Database Management
  • Programming
  • Elective Mathematics
  • Project Management

In addition to the above students are suppose to pursue the following core subjects:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Integrated Science
  • Social Studies
  • ICT

The programme currently has 28 students in the first year.

 

Apart from the normal Industrial training that trainees are made to go through, the department has introduce the "Practical Training Tour". This is designed to take students to institutions to service their computers and accesories whiles in school.It is done during the practical time. It is designed to help students have access to practical training and also have a feel of the world of work.
